Calling all 4th through 12th graders in Surry County!     jessefranklinpioneers_logo

 

      You are invited to join the Award Winning Jesse Franklin Pioneers, the local chapter of the Tar Heel Junior Historian Association.

      

         Become a history detective and find out more about:

  •  Historical buildings in Mt. Airy and Surry County

  • Famous men and women who made Mt. Airy and Surry County what it is today                                       

  • Early settlements and current towns and villages

  • How people have traditionally earned a living (role of agriculture and industry)

  • All about the Old North State

...and have fun too!  We'll host speakers, take field trips and end our year with a trip to the Annual Junior Historian Convention in Raleigh, NC where you have the opportunity to compete in statewide competitions.  Meetings are held every Thursday afternoon from 3:30 to 4:30  September 21 through the beginning of May.

Membership is FREE and includes:

  • Tar Heel Junior Historian magazine (published biannually)

  • Special previews of Museum exhibits and programs

  • A "back stage tour" of the museum's collections
