Exhibit Opening: The Luthier's Craft: Instrument Making Traditions of the Blue Ridge
Saturday May 18 from 10am until 5pm
The traveling exhibit The Luthier’s Craft: Instrument Making Traditions of the Blue Ridge will open to the public on Saturday, May 18, from 10am to 5pm at the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History. The exhibit opening includes a full day of programs, music and activities. Admission for the grand opening will be free. The exhibit will run through the end of February 2014.
The Luthier’s Craft is funded in part by a grant from the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area. This exhibit explores and documents the traditional arts of fiddle, guitar, and banjo making in southern Appalachia and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Featured craftsmen include guitar maker Wayne Henderson, fiddle makers Audrey Hash Ham and Chris Testerman and banjo maker Johnny Gentry. The exhibit offers visitors a hands-on, interactive exploration of the rich history of this traditional craft.
